ARIANA BURSTEIN

Ariana Burstein was born in Buenos Aires. At the suggestion of her father, she played the cello at the age of 7. The Argentine cellist received her musical training at the Conservatory in Buenos Aires and also studied in Uruguay, Israel and Germany. From 1967–1972 she gave concerts with her two sisters, Susana (piano) and Silvia (violin), the Trio Burstein.


1968–1971 winner of several music competitions in South America, including “Juventudes musicales”, “Círculo Cultural del Ateneo”, “Mozarteum Argentino”, “Biblioteca Artigas-Washington y AEMUS”, as a soloist and in an ensemble. 1969–1971 solo cellist in the “Orquesta de Cámara Flesch”, Uruguay.


1971 The Burstein family moves from Uruguay to Israel.

1972-1978 cello studies with Professor Uzi Wiesel in Tel-Aviv. 1972–1975 annual scholarship from the “America-Israel Society for Young Artists”. Participation in master classes with Pierre Fournier, Leonard Rose and Arto Noras. 1973 to 1978 member of the "Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra" as a soloist.

Ariana Burstein has lived in Germany since 1978. 1978–1980 solo cellist in the Bremerhaven Municipal Orchestra. Radio and television recordings among others: Kol Israel (Jerusalem), SWR, SDR, SR, ZDF. Participation in "Ensemble 13", Baden-Baden, including several productions for ARD. From 1981–1996 Ariana Burstein taught violoncello at various German music schools. In addition to individual lessons, she also took on the leadership of workshops and chamber music courses.


Additional concert activities in various ensembles: 1982–1984 solo cellist in the “Orquestre Franco-Allemande”, Freiburg i. Br. 1983–1988 member of the “Glinka Trio” with Mohammad Ehtemam (clarinet) and Lya Goldner (piano). 1994–1998 cellist in the "Bach Orchestra", Freiburg i. Br.


Since 1996 she has been giving concerts every year with the guitarist Roberto Legnani on national concert tours. As protagonists, the two musicians have continuously and formatively established the unusually distinctive combination of cello and guitar in concert life over a period of over two decades. Thanks to her creative work, a completely new repertoire for cello and guitar has emerged. Ariana Burstein is co-editor of works for violoncello & guitar for the music publisher F. Hofmeister in Leipzig and ELEG. Numerous CD recordings at ELEG.
